The Wakefield Acorn Computer (User) Group is very proud to announce that Wakefield 2000, its fifth annual show, will take place on Saturday & Sunday, 20th & 21st May 2000. The show is sponsored by Acorn User, Castle, Cerilica and RiscStation.
Once again the show will be held in the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium, Horbury Road, Wakefield. The venue is easy to reach both by car and by public transport, being about one mile from the M1 and half a mile from the main Wakefield railway station. Wakefield is a small but lively city with hotels and B&Bs at prices to suit all tastes. The night life in Westgate at weekends has to be experienced to be believed!
Wakefield 2000 is a truly friendly enthusiasts' show which is organised entirely by volunteers from WACG. It is well-established as a premier, if not the premier, exhibition for the Acorn/RISC OS community.
The Wakefield Acorn Computer Group was formed in 1983 and, in addition to being amongst the largest regional RISC OS user groups, has the proud record of never having missed a monthly meeting since its formation.
Advance ticket holders may enter 15 minutes ahead of these times.

The Wakefield Acorn Computer (User) Group announces its sixth annual show, sponsored by Acorn User, Castle Technology, Cerilica, Photodesk, R-Comp/RCI, RiscStation and Surftec. The show will take place on Saturday & Sunday, 19th & 20th May 2001.
The show advert is shown to the right; click it to view a larger version in a new window. An even larger and more detailed version is also available. As usual, the show will be held in the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium, Horbury Road, Wakefield. Click on the map, below, to load it as a Draw file. |
|
The venue features:
There is free on-site parking, including disabled parking, and AA signs marking routes to the show from the motorways and other main routes.
Most people travelling to the show by public transport from outside the area will arrive by rail, most likely at Wakefield Westgate station.
The station is a simple walk of approximately three quarters of a mile to the show venue, but, as an added service to visitors, for the first time this year we are providing a free Courtesy Minibus service between the station and the show at Thornes Park Athletics Stadium.
With the cooperation of Great North Eastern Railway, the bus will operate from the car park directly outside the station entrance.
Exact schedules will be publicised later. The aim will be to connect with GNER arrivals from London and Doncaster and Virgin Cross Countr arrivals from Birmingham and the southwest from around 9:30am onwards.
Later, when visitors are ready to go home, they can be dropped either at Westgate railway station or at the Wakefield bus/coach station. Again, the aim will be to connect with principal GNER and VXC services.
On the Saturday, the show will declared open by The Mayor of Wakefield.

| Foundation members & OAPs | £2.50 | £2.50 |

The Foundation rate is available on production of a Foundation membership card.
As a special offer, members of the Wakefield Acorn Computer (User) Group and the ARM Club can gain admittance on the Sunday for the reduced price of £2.50, provided that they show their membership card.
Over 25 exhibitors are currently booked in and this number is growing daily. The exhibition is all at ground floor level, with good access for the disabled. The show theatre and all-day catering are on the 1st floor, but there is a lift which is big enough for wheelchairs.
A new attraction is the Final of the RISCOS Ltd Demo Competition. This has been promoted to encourage programmers to write eye-catching demonstrations which utilise to the full the capabilities of the RISC OS operating system and hardware.
We will also have all the regular features including, the RiscStation Small Developers Village, the Castle Technology Internet Café, the R-Comp Games Arcade and, of course, the Show Theatre with a full programme of lectures and demonstrations on both days.
While donations brought along to the show will be very welcome, it would be even more helpful if items could be posted, or delivered, in advance. Wakefield Hospice, which will be the principal beneficiary, has kindly volunteered to receive and store items for the stand until showtime.
Items should be sent to:

The RISC OS 2001 Show builds upon the huge success of the RISC OS 2000 Show, which was held at the Epsom Downs racecourse in Surrey in October 2000.
Due to an increase of more than 15% in the cost of hiring Epsom Downs for the 2001 show, which we believe to be unfair to prospective exhibitors, the organising committee has decided to move to a similar venue in the Reading area, bringing the following benefits over Epsom:
The RISC OS 2001 Show will of course feature all of the existing attractions and facilities of RISC OS 2000, including a minibus service from Reading's main railway station. More details of featured attractions, exhibitors, theatre timetables, recommended routes etc. will be available in due course.
As with RISC OS 2000, the RISC OS 2001 Show is organised by the ARM Club, ROUGOL and SASAUG, with help from the Association of Acorn User Groups. It aims to be the RISC OS show of the year, with support from RISC OS manufacturers, dealers, developers and users, and to create a truly unique and prestigious RISC OS event.
The ARM Club will be holding the Midlands RISC OS Show on Saturday, 1st December 2001 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, Solihull, near Birmingham, West Midlands.
|
The venue is just off junction 6 of the M42, at the junction of the M42 and the A45.
Directions to the National Motorcycle Museum are provided on this CD: click the thumbnail map to the right to see a full-size version in a new browser window. Alternatively, the original Draw file is also available. |

CANCELLED |
It is with great regret that the ARM Club is forced to announce the cancellation of the Midlands Show, which was to have been held on 29th November 2003.
Our normal venue, the National Motorcycle Museum, suffered a severe fire on 16th September, destroying several parts of the building and rendering many more parts unusable. The suite we had booked was damaged in the fire, and has been declared unsafe. Since the fire we have attempted to find alternative venues in the area, but unfortunately have found nothing suitable and available. Cancellation is not a decision that we have taken lightly, and we appreciate the disappointment to visitors and exhibitors alike.
At this stage we are planning to run the show again in 2004, by which time the Museum should be back in functioning order.
The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club announces that its ninth annual show is at the planning stage. The show will take place on Saturday & Sunday, 15th & 16th May 2004.
The show will not be at its usual venue, however: it will take place at the Cedar Court Hotel Conference Centre, which is at Junction 39 of the M1, just off the slip-road beside the motorway. A free minibus will be provided from Wakefield Westgate railway station (and possibly elsewhere) to the venue (courtesy of APDL and Virtual Acorn).
The show will feature a theatre with 100–120 seats, a prize draw, catering and free car parking facilities for up to 350 cars.
