NoPaste 0.50 can now be downloaded from:
http://www.flypig.co.uk/dnload.htm
NoPaste is a small module intended to fix a problem introduced in RISC OS Select 4.36 that sometimes causes text pasted into writable icons to appear twice (particularly for Messenger, Organizer and probably others).
Basically, the module filters out Ctrl-V keypresses to writable icons. It hasn't yet gone through much testing, but I'm making it available anyway in case it's useful.
!CCres v1.04 fixes a few more bugs:
Fixed problem with help_limit for empty help strings
Fixed problem when empty string specified in fixed size text buffer
Fixed problem with sprite entries in menus
Syntax error message when used incorrectly from command line
!CCres is an application for converting Toolbox Res files (fae) and Wimp Template files (fec) to and from text format. It can be run from the command line or as a Wimp application.
Text file output uses a simple C-like format based on the equivalent OSLib header definitions.
!CCres is Freeware. It must only be distributed in its original form and there must be no charge for it.

RCI is pleased to announce the release of version 1.35 of our UniPrint family of RISC OS/Windows printing products.
1.35 deals with the outstanding issues reported by a small number of customers, to ensure robust/reliable performance.
Additionally, for owners of the VirtualAcorn or Deluxe editions of UniPrint, there is now support for the MicroDigital Alpha laptop computer. This allows Alpha owners to print to a printer attached to the laptop via the Windows drivers present on that "side" of the machine. This ensures compatiblity with a wide range of printers, and excellent quality - including photo quality if the printer supports it.
Because it includes enhancements across all versions, all editions of UniPrint have been updated to 1.35, and existing users should have received the update via email by now. If you haven't received an update, and believe that you should have done, please allow another 24 hours, and then contact us by email - rci@rcomp.co.uk
More information can be found on UniPrint at or you can email or phone us with specific queries.

RCI is pleased to announce the release of 32bit enhanced versions of Descent 1 and Descent 2 for RISC OS machines.
The enhancements are as follows:
The upgrade pack contains both and costs 15ukp inclusive for existing owners.
Whilst this update is clearly targetted at Iyonix owners, Strongarm RiscPC users may well also benefit from this update, and new features such as the Descent 2 movies work on those machines too.
We also have a very few full copies of the double-pack left (literally just a few) priced at 35ukp inclusive of VAT/UK delivery.
The Descent games are 3D action games, played from a first person perspective from the cockpit of a spacecraft. The player explores various enemy occupied mines in a fully 3D space (including above and below). Please see www.rcomp.co.uk which contains more information.

Hi All,
check out my new look Classic Acorn Website.

For Everything 8 & 32bit. Stripdowns, Repairs, Spares, or just advice.
Fast growing and tons more to be added soon.
QuickFiler is a utility which allows you to use many standard shortcut keys in conjunction with the RISC OS Filer windows.
The Filer gains the input focus when you click in a directory display, and then responds to the keyboard shortcuts as shown on the Filer's menu, and the window will also scrollable.
It should now work on all versions of RISC OS from 3.00 to 5 (32bit) but requires a Risc PC-style !Boot application or later.
It was written by David Thomas, who has given me permission to distribute this version, as I have just made it 32bit compatible.
Please see http://www.avisoft.force9.co.uk/ for further details and download.
Stream v1.00 is a completely new MP3 streaming player. It is more reliable and better structured than any previous RISC OS mp3 streamer released.
It requires several modules; AMPlayerBuffer and MP3Stream, which are available from http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~jwd104/ Acorn's URL_Fetcher (and HTTP) module, which appear to be supplied with RISC OS, and AMPlayer 1.39, available from http://www.amplayer.org/
To get started, read the Install and !Help files, then go to http://www.mp3.com/ and stream music from there by running .m3u files.
Note that this only supports streams fetchable by Acorn URL_Module plugins. This means that shoutcast style streams are not natively supported. I am looking into a proxy option in order to allow these to be played.
Thanks,
John

A new version of SPatience, the famous scriptable patience game, is available online and has been again improved since last version (1.23).
The main new feature is that it is now possible to play "Spider" family patience games.
You will find them at: http://perso.worldonline.fr/donsback/
Beacause of problems reported using version 1.23 with select, two versions are available. They have beeen compiled with the old Ansi-C 5 (26 bits) and with the new Ansi-C from Castle Technology (32bits). The 32 bits version should run on the Iyonix.
With !SPatience, you can also download the patience library that features more than 250 ready-to-play !Patience games.
I now maintained this game, and bug reports, wishes, new patience games rules, and even new patience games scripts are welcome.
!Spatience is happily used on a RISC OS 3.7 + SA RiscPC.
Happy gaming :-)
Version 0.46 of !USBinfo has just been released and can be downloaded freely from:
http://www.xat.nl/en/RISC OS/sw/usb/index.htm
This release
Many new Devices and Vendors have been added and a new on-line manual is now available from within the software. Furthermore a few smaller bugs have been fixed and the latest release of some internal modules are included.
Thanks
Thanks to all who have reported new USB devices to us. This has been most helpful. The USB report form is still available at http://www.xat.nl/en/RISC OS/sw/usb/form.htm
About USBinfo
USBinfo is a small utility that is used to display the topology of the USB system on your RISC OS machine. Additionally, it can be used to view detailed technical information about each USB device connected, in a graphical manner. Currently it only supports the IYONIX pc and the Castle USB card.
More information is available on the website (above). Any comments and bug reports please to: usb@xat.nl
I've just released a new version (0.14) of SpamStamp. This new version has several enhancements:
Because of the bigger hashtables SpamStamp needs a lot more memory (around 2Mb) when debatching mail. Low memory systems are advised to stay at version 0.12 for the time being.
You can find the new version here:
http://home.c2i.net/jjvdgeer/RISC OS/spamstamp.html
For those that don't know: SpamStamp is a program that attempts to detect if a mail is spam or not. Some headers are added to the mail with the result of that check. Your mail client can then decide what to do with the spam.
Deciding whether mail is spam or not is being done by bayesian filtering techniques (see http://www.paulgraham.com/spam.html). This means that you do not need to set up all kinds of rules, but the system figures it out by itself. It does this because every time it makes a mistake, you tell it that it took a wrong decision. This then increases SpamStamp's ability to detect spam.
It is my pleasure to announce the launch of the BBC Micro and Beeb Emulators mailing list archives.
The BBC Micro mailing list archive is now available online at: http://nelsonit.net/~jon/BBCMicro/
The BBC Emulators mailing list archive is available online at: http://nelsonit.net/~jon/BeebEmul8/
Main Features:
The BBC Micro archive should have new posts added during the first week of each month as time allows. The BBC Emulators list is now defunct and will only be updated as new messages and features become available.
An archive of the info-cpm usenet group is also available at: http://nelsonit.net/~jon/info-cpm/
This is a joint project between myself, Jon Ripley, and Jonathan Harston. Thanks are also due to James Fidell for hosting the mailing lists, Andy Nelson for providing the web space and to majordomo who supplies all the messages.
Due to the unexpected availability of some VRAM chips, Simtec have a small quantity of 2MB VRAM modules available for ukp60.00 (including vat and UK carriage).
As these chips have been obsolete for some time, it is unlikely that any more modules will ever be manufactured - so if you've always intended to upgrade your RISCPC with a 2MB VRAM module, buy one while you can!
Contact and ordering details are available at: www.simtec.co.uk
In a fit of last-minute tweaks, I've finally created a stable version of my PIC programming software, PICProg.
PICProg is a simple command-line tool designed to make it possible to use low-cost hardware to program Microchip's "PIC" microcontrollers (see www.microchip.com) with RISC OS. It is designed to work with most "Tait" compatible programmer hardware, such as David Tait's "Classic" PIC programmer or the PIC programmer kit formerly sold by Maplin Electronics). As this is a beta version, it is in dire need of testing and bugfixing. I think I've got rid of 90% of the bugs that I found in my last test run. Please contact me via the email address at the bottom of this message if you find any bugs.
PICProg follows the Microchip programming specifications as closely as is possible on a multitasking system. A "BogoMIPS" style delay loop is used to generate the millisecond-range delays used for programming.
The current version of PICProg is available from my website - http://www.philpem.dsl.pipex.com/. Select "RISC OS" from one of the navigation toolbars, then select "RISCPIC". Some documentation is included in the archive. It is hoped that this will be improved as development progresses.
About two hours ago I uploaded my port of the latest version of the "GPUtils" PIC microcontroller development system to my website. GPUtils is an open-sourced (GNU Public License) set of development tools for the Microchip "PIC" series of microcontrollers. The assembler (GPASM) is fully source-code compatible with Microchip's MPASM assembler and as a result most code found on sites such as the "PICList" can be compiled with very little effort.
The port was created with GCC and is fully 32-bit clean. It has not yet been tested on an Iyonix, but you will require a copy of the SharedUnixLibrary (SharedULib) module. This should be available from http://www.chocky.org/unix/ or http://hard-mofo.dsvr.net/gcc/. I would appreciate it if anyone using my port on an Iyonix could contact me via email with the results of any testing.
At the time of writing, GPUtils is located at http://gputils.sourceforge.net. My port is currently located on my website - http://www.philpem.dsl.pipex.com. Select "RISC OS" from one of the navigation bars, then click the "RISCPIC" link.
NewAlarm 1.36 is now available from
http://www.bigfoot.com/~chrisbazley/utilities.htm#newalarm
NewAlarm is a text-based desktop alarm program, which tells the time in a charmingly vague way ("It's almost ten past five") instead of with computerised precision ("17:09:16"). It allows you to set and manage an unlimited number of [repeating] alarms, and endeavours to combine the best features of Acorn's 'Alarm' and Doggysoft's 'RoughTime'.
The new version adds a Help entry to the menu (without an iconbar icon, it's always been hard to get at the instructions) and makes it rather easier to drag the window without bringing it to the front.
Samuel Kock generously provided me with a version of the text of AALP that combines the contents of the PDF files into a single file, and includes bookmarks for each of the major section headings.
I've added the composite PDF and a ZIPped version of it in the AALP section of my website:
http://www.peter-cockerell.net:8080/aalp/
You can also access the file via my Yahoo! briefcase using this URL:
http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/78b20659/bc/AALP/PDF/all.zip?BCX9yE_AahCEn52D
(I just restored public access to the AALP files on Yahoo! after I discovered that they'd all disappeared since public sharing had become part of the the "premium" service.)
On http://www.compo.iconbar.com ...
...interested people will now find:
Magic wand masking
Feather mask
Save for Web (like P*o*oS*op)
More effects (Watermark, Flour bomb, Pointillist edges) More pointillist widgets to play with (rotate shapes, twirl etc.) Experimental: different colour models (RGB, CMY and YUV currently) Less bugs - or at least very different ones!
HTML documentation to version 0.20 courtesy of R. Ashbury. I've asked him not to put too much work into it until Variations is less of a moving target - any errors therein are more than likely mine!
Iyonix compatible.
Iyonix compatible.
Mostly bugfixes, but there are a few small new features that have been requested by users in there too.
Iyonix compatible.
Version 2.02 of !Webgen2 has just gone up on the website.
Just a couple of minor bugs, a minor tidy up of the help files and a slight change to how I package the thing.
It should now be completely compatible with Iyonix, but I don't have one so cannot test it. If you have probnlems, let me know. Apparently it will crash Aemulator (sp) so don't use that.
For those that don't know !Webgen is a simple application that will take a directory of images, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, SPRITE and PNG at last count, and turn them into a complete web site.
Webgen2 Expands on the options Webgen offers, making the generated site much more flexible, both the generate in the first place, and to use and view.
All the code generated is as close as possible to the W3C's html standards, and should validate to 4.01 transitional.
Go to http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/daves/software
A big thanks to all who helped identify these for me.
In addition it recognises ImageFS and ChangeFSI (if running/booted) and all formats handled by those applications.
It will handle files and directories dragged to the iconbar for immediate views.
It also includes an editable image details database based on the EXIF tag standard.
Catalogues can be pre-built from a directory(ies) full of images or appended to by dragging from a filer window. Images can also be dragged from a Digiflash window :-) and applications.
It will create an HTML version of a catalogue.
Read-Only sources can be catalogued (including HTML).
There are also details of buying ready built MiniB boards, for those who'd rather not build it themselves!

!nstall is a new program making it easy for users to install software on RISC OS computers. Installing software is more complicated than it used to be, because modern programs commonly need to be supplied with system resources to ensure they work across as many systems as possible, especially since the release of RISC OS 5.
!nstall enables developers to supply various system resources along with their applications with flexible delivery media while making the process easy for end users with a Wizard-like progression through pages in a window for customising the installation, and progress bars while the files are being copied and unpacked, showing overall and per-disc progress.
!nstall itself is released under the GPL but makes use of tar and bzip2 which have alternative but compatible free licences. The slightly weird name is because Install, being fairly obvious, was already taken.
It can be downloaded from <http://www.realh.co.uk/downloads/nstall.zip>
The archive also contains source, including tar and bzip2. The source need not be included with your installation discs provided any changes you make are published elsewhere.
What was that about "no new software"?
Having managed to get in contact with the former employer of the original DDF2Html author, John Allred, I have now officially taken over support and maintenance for the program, and am pleased finally to announce a 'proper' new release of DDF2Html - version 1.50.
DDF2Html is an Impression->HTML converter, although it also handles plain text files, providing an easy way to avoid line ending/character- set issues when sending material to non-RISC OS recipients. The latest version now allows *any* Impression style in a given DDF file to be specified for conversion to *any* arbitrary HTML tag - including the ability to request that tab-separated text in that style be treated as an HTML table/definition list - plus the ability to save and export such 'mappings' for future re-use.
Version 1.50 no longer offers the old "bullet choice panel" on the main window. Instead, it allows a more general choice between the basic HTML 3.2 entity set (as supplied with the earliest versions of the program) and an 'HTML 4' set including, amongst others, a "•" entity.
DDF2Html v1.50 can be downloaded from
http://www.bigfoot.com/~chrisbazley/utilities.htm#ddfhtml

Teletext+, the advanced Teletext viewer, from Octopus Systems has been upgraded to run in 32-bit mode on the IYONIX pc and is now available to purchase or as an upgrade for existing users.
Teletext+ is the only teletext software suitable for the IYONIX pc and works with all teletext podules and external adapters from Computer Concepts, Design IT, Ground Control, Irlam, Morley, Solidisk, Wild Vision, Yellowstone and Octopus Systems. The latest version of Teletext+ enables these teletext systems to be used with the IYONIX pc fitted with a podule backplane without requiring any hardware modifications or other upgrades.
Teletext+ is an advanced Teletext viewer for displaying Teletext pages (Ceefax etc) received over the air using a teletext card or teletext adapter. Pages are cached as they are received and the unique predictive capability means that your frequently used pages will be cached for quick access whenever the system is used.
Advanced keyword searching can search hundreds of pages for items of interest which might otherwise be missed. Matches are displayed in a separate window which effectively gives a personalised magazine of interesting news, events, share prices and TV and radio programmes. Pages can be saved as Viewdata, sprite, CSV or text files either manually or under the control of a script file and there is an option to allow all sub-pages to be saved in a single text file. Sophisticated data logging enables share prices to be tracked daily in a CSV file for viewing in a spreadsheet.
Teletext+ can also search TV and radio listings for programmes and keywords that might interest you and alert you a few minutes before a programme starts. As well as an audible alarm it will even speak the programme details if Speak is installed.
Teletext+ is available from Octopus Systems for £44 including a 50 page printed manual. Upgrades for existing users are available for £15 by returning their master disc or by Email if the original serial number is quoted. Payment should be by cheque payable to Octopus Systems.
Octopus Systems can be contacted at 16 Willow Close, Claydon, IPSWICH IP6 0DW, tel 01473 832615 or via http://www.octosys.co.uk/
