Acorn Publisher magazine

The bi-monthly magazine for computer graphics, DTP & Web design

Despite its name, Acorn Publisher has never been a magazine for publishers. There are publishers who read the magazine (quite a few), and many of Acorn Publisher's contributors are directly involved in the processes of transferring their words and pictures into the public domain. But throughout the last eight years, the magazine has always been about using a computer and producing a presentation about which one can be proud. The 'one' may be a publisher; but frequently 'one' is just an ordinary person wanting to be pleased with the work that he or she produces.

  • If you use graphics applications (ArtWorks, Composition, DrawWorks, Photodesk, ProArtisan, Studio24 Pro, Vantage, Vector, or just Draw or Paint, or any of the many other graphics utilities), then Acorn Publisher is for you.
  • If you use desktop publishing programs (EasiWriter, Impression, Ovation Pro, TechWriter, TextEase), then Acorn Publisher is for you.
  • If you produce Web pages for yourself (or others), design posters for your local Brownie Guides (or XYZ Advertising), or simply want to understand the elements of good design, then Acorn Publisher is for you.

    Paper and electronic publishing

One very recent departure for Acorn Publisher is the complementary Web sites. The main site at http://www.acornpublisher.co.uk/ allows readers to find articles, track work by individual writers, and locate articles and other links that refer to a particular piece of software. To date, only the bare bones of the site have been produced, but keep looking as these will be progressively fleshed out over the coming months. A second site is to be launched later this year and will cover all the areas of RISC OS computing that won't fit into Acorn Publisher. Together, Acorn Publisher and AP On-line will be the complete colour magazine that the RISC OS community deserves.

AP On-line will be available at http://www.aponline.co.uk/ or through links from the Acorn Publisher site, and will be produced between issues of Acorn Publisher. Parts of the on-line magazine will be free for all to access, but others may be restricted to current subscribers of Acorn Publisher magazine.News and general articles will be shared with My RISC OS at http://www.myriscos.com/ and discussion forums will be available through the same site, but for Acorn Publisher subscribers only.

Don't take our word for it: if you haven't seen Acorn Publisher then send us an email (or ring us) and ask for a free sample copy. We won't even ask you to stand in that line of readers in Smiths!
