Meetings

Meetings take place in Witham Public Library in the heart of Essex. The library is an off-white building with a pillar each side of the main entrance, almost directly opposite the statue of Dorothy L. Sayers and her little cat, both of whom used to live next door to the library. There is parking at the rear of the building, accessed by a private road that runs down the right-hand side of the library. Beware, park only to the left of the access road, directly behind the library. If this area is full, it is usually possible to find spaces on the main road in the vicinity of the library. Entry is through a side door (alongside the access road) which is left ajar for late arrivals. The front door is left closed to keep out late-arriving book borrowers!

Directions

From Braintree on the B1018.
Entering the speed-limited outskirts of Witham, continue through all of the roundabouts (small/mini) following the signs for Witham and Chelmsford/Colchester. Immediately after the fourth roundabout you go over a Pelican crossing followed by the classic bridge over the railway. Immediately there is another roundabout where you take the first exit and follow "The Avenue", turning right at the traffic lights into Newland Street. The Library will be on your right, at the zebra crossing. The turning to park is on the right just before the crossing.

From Chelmsford direction on the A12.
Come off at the Witham exit. You are then on the 'old A12' that runs straight through the centre of Witham. Continue on this road passing four sets of traffic lights (the final two are very close together in a narrow part of what is called Newland Street). You will find the Library on your left after about 100 metres, at the zebra crossing. The turning to park is on the left immediately after the crossing.

From Colchester on the A12.
Come off at the Witham exit and you'll cross a bridge over the A12.  Go straight ahead at the mini roundabout, eventually passing over the old (disused) railway bridge. When you reach the cross roads (the first traffic lights) go straight ahead about 100 metres and the library is on your right, at the zebra crossing. The turning to park is on the right just before the crossing.

From Maldon on the B1018.
Entering the town you pass under a bridge carrying the A12. Keep straight on, eventually reaching a roundabout. Again keep straight on. Very quickly you will reach some traffic lights where you turn right. Immediately there are more traffic lights. Keep straight ahead and the library is on your left in about 100 metres, at the zebra crossing. The turning to park is on the left immediately after the crossing.
